About

I am Janet. 72 years old. Widow. Mother. Mother in law. Grandmother. Aunt. Cousin. Dogmother. Basket maker. Cook. Retired teacher. Retired restaurant owner. BBQ aficionado. Cabernet lover. Craftsman. Artist wannabe. Cookbook writer.

This is the first time in my life that I have lived alone. Well, almost alone if I don’t include my 90 lb chocolate lab.

Why a blog? I did not know where to turn when the love of my life needed a care giver. Little things at first. Then the big things presented themselves. Then there were hospitals. Nursing home whispers. Hospice. Then funeral arrangements. Then all that comes after.

When the fog cleared I faced a new set of problems. Where were the answers? Who had it all figured out? Was there a guidebook? Was there an Idiot’s Guide for grief? Buy…sell…stay…go…where….how…when…

I plan to share my thoughts occasionally on those issues and how I dealt (am dealing) with them. But I would also like to share snippets of life as it is now and was back then. An outlet for me, and for you…a look into the life of a woman old enough…but not quite ready to give up the fight.
